WebNov 6, 2007 · Your cruise RPM should be really close to your torque peak, but on a BBC, keep cruise RPM below 3000 for ultimate reliability. Lower is not better on the RPM thing... if you're too far below the torque peak you have to open the throttles more to maintain speed. In extreme situations that can cause piston overheating.
