Web6 de mai. de 2007 · Received 5 Likes on 3 Posts. Hi, it all depends - on the helicopter, the load and the pilot. It´s often my daily/nightly job hovering outside ground effect - sometimes from refuelstop to refuelstop - but thats another story. My boss gives me an appropiate helicopter and normaly I avoid hovering with tailwind. When an aircraft flies at or below approximately half the length of the aircraft's wingspan above the ground or water there occurs an often-noticeable ground effect. The result is lower induced drag on the aircraft. This is caused primarily by the ground or water obstructing the creation of wingtip vortices and interrupting downwash behind the wing. Web7 de jul. de 2009 · Ground Effect is a condition of improved performance encountered when operating near (within 1/2 rotor diameter) of the ground. It is due to the interference of the surface with the airflow pattern of the rotor system, and it is more pronounced the nearer the ground is approached.
